I’ll admit it: for a long time, I thought wainscoting belonged in old houses with enormous entryways, tall ceilings, and probably a chandelier hanging somewhere nearby. Then I started noticing it in ordinary homes. A narrow hallway. A small bathroom. A dining room with very basic furniture. Even a bedroom that was otherwise completely modern. … Read more
The first time I tried to decorate a really small bedroom for two people, I made the classic mistake: I tried to fit everything in. A bigger bed. Two bedside tables. A wardrobe. A chair. A little plant in the corner because, well, every room looks better with a plant, right? Within a week, the … Read more
I used to think a bedroom needed a complete makeover to feel different. New furniture, fresh paint, maybe even a new bed frame. But after living with a few different bedroom setups, I realized that wasn’t really true. Sometimes it was as simple as changing the bedside lighting. Other times, moving the bed away from … Read more
The first time I walked into my college dorm room, I remember thinking, Okay… how am I supposed to make this feel like home? There was a bed, a desk, a tiny wardrobe, and those very unmistakable plain white walls. Everything looked clean, but nothing looked like me. It felt more like a temporary room … Read more
I used to think a small bedroom was something I had to work around rather than something I could actually enjoy. My room always seemed to have one too many things in it. The little dorm upgrade I almost skipped The first time I walked into my dorm room, I remember staring at the plain Twin XL bed and thinking, Well… this doesn’t exactly feel like home. I’ll be honest—I used to think pink and green together sounded a little… too much. In my head, it was either going to look like a watermelon or a garden party gone wrong. But then I helped a friend decorate her tiny dorm room before the fall semester, and everything changed. We mixed soft blush … Read more
I still remember the first time I walked into my dorm room. It wasn’t terrible… but it definitely wasn’t inspiring either. White walls, plain furniture, bright overhead lighting, and absolutely zero personality. I stood there for a few minutes wondering how I was supposed to call this little box “home” for an entire school year. … Read more
Moving Into My Dorm Taught Me One Unexpected Decorating Lesson I’ll be honest—I didn’t think a rug would matter that much when I first moved into a dorm. My shopping list was filled with practical things like storage bins, bedding, and desk organizers. A rug? That felt like one of those “maybe later” purchases. Then … Read more
Sometimes the Smallest Rooms End Up Feeling Like Home I’ll be honest—I’ve always loved scrolling through beautifully decorated bedrooms online, but there was a time when I’d close those photos thinking, Well… that’s nice if you have a huge room. Mine wasn’t huge. It barely had enough space for a bed, a tiny side table, … Read more
