Romero, who started for Argentina in their World Cup qualifiers campaign just five days before the fixture, was specifically mentioned as playing with tiredness.
Typically, national federations are responsible for organizing the travel to and from their players’ clubs for international games. However, some clubs decide to organize private travel to get their players back as soon as possible. Tottenham, it seems, did not feel the need to do this, and Romero is suggesting that this impacted his performance during the North London derby.
It’s hard to argue with Romero’s point. The lack of support for international players is a common issue in the Premier League, and it’s often the smaller clubs that feel the brunt of it. But for a club like Tottenham, who have a rich history and a massive following, it’s unacceptable that they didn’t provide more support for their players.
