Manchester City Star Aymeric Laporte Provides Insight Into Club’s Response to 115-Charge Hearing
In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte, who now plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, gave an insider’s perspective on the ongoing 115-charge hearing into the club’s alleged breaches of Premier League rules.
The lengthy investigation into City’s dealings has spanned nine years, covering the period from 2009 to 2018. The allegations include, but are not limited to, failing to provide accurate financial information, breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR), and non-compliance with UEFA’s financial fair play (FFP) regulations.
During the interview, Laporte revealed that when the charges were first laid, the club’s sporting director and CEO reassured the players and staff that they could be calm because no rule had been broken. As a result, Laporte and his teammates are not overly concerned about the potential outcome.
"Not one rule has been broken by Man City," Laporte reiterated. "That’s why we all think City will be fine. I don’t think there will be any issues." He then quoted his manager, Pep Guardiola, who says that if a mistake was made, they will pay the price for it.
Guardiola’s sentiments echoed his recent statements, in which he implied that rivals in the Premier League have an interest in seeing Manchester City punished before the charges have even been heard in court. While La Liga president Javier Tebas hinted that this may be true, Guardiola urged his critics to await the findings of the independent panel before jumping to conclusions.
At 90min, we’re not sure what the outcome of the hearing will be, but one thing is certain: Manchester City’s dominance on the pitch, with eight Premier League titles since 2012, has undoubtedly earned them several enemies in the football community.
