FA’s England Job Search Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting: Who is Kieran McKenna?
The search for Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement as England manager is heating up, and a new name has emerged as a contender: Kieran McKenna, the 38-year-old Ipswich manager.
McKenna’s rise to prominence is nothing short of remarkable. A former Tottenham youth coach, he worked his way up the ranks at Old Trafford, serving as Manchester United’s first-team assistant before taking the plunge into senior management with Ipswich in 2021.
Since then, he’s achieved back-to-back promotions, guiding the club from League One to the Premier League. That’s no small feat, folks!
So, what makes McKenna a viable candidate for the England job? Well, for starters, his impressive track record with Ipswich is hard to ignore. He’s proven himself as a capable and innovative manager, capable of getting the best out of his players.
And let’s not forget his connection to Tottenham, where he worked under FA technical director John McDermott. McDermott was instrumental in McKenna’s development, and it’s no surprise he’s now being touted as a potential replacement for Southgate.
McKenna’s also got the international managerial experience, having worked with England’s U18s and U21s in the past.
While he’s still a relatively new manager, McKenna’s got all the right credentials to make a strong case for the England job. And at 38, he’s still in his prime, with plenty of time to build a legacy with the national side.
