Liverpool Eyeing Three Summer Signings as Reason for Rejected Bid Explained
The Reds have been relatively quiet in the transfer market this summer, but a new report suggests that they’re planning to strengthen three positions ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have been discussing potential signings with a focus on players aged 24 or under with a decent level of experience. The three positions they’re looking to strengthen are centre-back, attacking wide player, and holding midfielder.
The report comes as a surprise, given that Liverpool have yet to make a signing this summer. However, manager Arne Slot has explained that he wants to assess the players he has before bringing in new recruits. "One of the reasons is me wanting to assess the players I have, which is difficult because most of them aren’t here," he said.
Liverpool’s lack of activity in the transfer market has sparked concern among fans, but Slot remains calm. "I’ve inherited a team that is really good so it’s not so easy to find players of the same standard or even higher. We are waiting for our players to come back and waiting for the right ones to sign."
The Reds recently turned down a bid from Marseille for Wataru Endo, with reports suggesting that their valuation of the Japan international is higher than the French club’s offer. Football Insider claims that Liverpool and Slot are unwilling to weaken their midfield by allowing Endo to depart.
It’s clear that Liverpool are taking their time to find the right signings, rather than rushing into deals. With the transfer window closing on August 30, they’ll need to act quickly to strengthen their squad.
