Real Madrid Reject Carlo Ancelotti’s Plea for New Centre-Back Signing – but Why?
Real Madrid have turned down Carlo Ancelotti’s request for a new centre-back to strengthen their defensive options – a decision that has left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads.
The Italian tactician has been asking for a new defender to bolster his defence, particularly with the departure of Nacho Fernandez to Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. However, reports suggest that the club are unwilling to bolster their defensive ranks, despite ANCelotti’s pleas.
What’s behind this decision? Well, when you look at Real’s current roster, it’s clear that they have relied heavily on Eder Militao and Antonio Rudiger to fill in. Rudiger, in particular, is having a stellar season, marshaling the backline with impressive authority. But what about alternative options?
The truth is that Real Madrid have been looking for a central defender all summer, but didn’t find anyone they fancied. They were unsuccessful in signing Leny Yoro, who snubbed them for Manchester United and a £52 million move. And after that, the options were simply not there.
So, what is Ancelotti to do? David Alaba is still recovering from an ACL injury, and Jesus Vallejo is out injured too. For now, Aurelien Tchouameni will have to plug the gap, but it’s evident that Ancelotti is worried.
The Problem with Defensive Options
The issue for Ancelotti is that of all the central defenders Real have, only Rudiger can play on the left side. And even he tends to prefer playing on the right. In other words, the club didn’t have a reliable left-sided centre-back unless they signed someone new.
Moreover, with Alaba still unavailable, the left-back position could become a problem. And so, it’s no surprise that ANCelotti is pushing for a central defender to shore up the backline.
What’s Next for ANCelotti and Real?
So, what’s the plan for next season? ANCelotti was told by the club that he doesn’t need to worry about finding another centre-back for now, given the faith they have in his ability to adapt. But it’s understood that the situation will be reassessed once Alaba returns from his extended layoff.
In the meantime, fans should expect ANCelotti to come up with creative solutions to cover his weak spots. After all, that’s what he’s known for. And although it’s not ideal, Ancient is no stranger to adversity.
