Luke Littler has emulated football icon Lionel Messi by sleeping with his World Championship trophy.
Littler, 17, was crowned the youngest darts world champion after defeating Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the World Darts Championship final at Alexandra Palace on Friday.
Littler burst into tears on stage after winning the £500,000 prize pot as he also rose to No. 2 in the world rankings.
And the following day, the 17-year-old took to social media to share a photo of himself lying in bed with the giant Sid Waddell trophy, which was presented to him by Sir Chris Hoy on the night.
Following the hectic conclusion of the tournament, Littler captioned the post, which also featured a photo of her dog, Nala: “Home sweet home. Think Nala likes it too.”
He was seen lying with the trophy on the bed under a Santa-themed duvet cover.
And fans were loving Nuke’s cover, with one fan writing: “Can we applaud the choice of bedding?”
Another said: “Just a normal young lad enjoying his success wearing a Christmas quilt on his bed – amazing.”
A third said: ‘Bed too.’
Another said: “The choice of bedding is impeccable.”
The picture is reminiscent of the picture of football superstar Messi sleeping with the Jules Rimet trophy after winning the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
The post from December 2022 has received over 54 million likes.
By comparison, Littler’s post was liked 205,000 times 50 minutes after it went live.
Meanwhile, the image also gave fans a sneak peek inside the new mansion that Littler built for her parents.
Littler’s incredible 2024 netted him £1.5 million in prize money, as well as several lucrative sponsorship deals.
His newfound fame saw him become friends with a number of celebrities, including past and present Man Utd stars and social media personalities such as Angering.
In June, he teased that he would get a new car after passing his driving test – a modest Volkswagen.
