Amanda Staveley speaks out on her shock Newcastle exit and living with rare degenerative brain disease

The Fearsome Amanda Staveley Opens Up on Her Haunting Departure from Newcastle United

Amanda Staveley, the fearless business leader, has given an emotional goodbye to her beloved Newcastle United ahead of her departure. In a captivating interview, she shed tears as she revealed the depth of her emotional turmoil and her ongoing struggle with Huntington’s disease.

The 51-year-old admitted she was devastated to step down from her role at St. James’ Park, saying, “I’m heartbroken not to be there because I love the club more than anything; the fans, the community, everything… I would wish to be there every day.”

However, Staveley accepted that her decision to leave was prompted by the desire to give the club a fresh start and allow the management team to deliver their vision without interference from a co-owner. “Maybe we were right for Newcastle for those few years, but I’d be useless just standing there doing nothing and it wouldn’t be fair on Darren if we’re always there telling them what we think.” she stated.

In a deeply personal admission, Staveley revealed she was diagnosed with a degenerative disease called Huntington’s which has devastating effects on the nerve cells in the brain, causing mood swings, depression, and cognitive deterioration. She confided, “Over time, Huntington’s disease is often fatal.” Her fear of losing her abilities and mental acuity has impelled her to keep her mind constantly active through her work.

“I’m 51 and you just never know. I’ve adapted my lifestyle; I don’t smoke, I barely drink; I look after myself. But I truly believe that if I slow down and stop challenging myself, I will begin to slow down mentally.” – Staveley

Describing her diagnosis as a possible superpower, she claimed it enhanced her analytical abilities, “It’s my superpower because it allows me to think in a way that other people just don’t think… I hold myself to a high standard.”

In her moving goodbye statement, Staveley emphasized, “It’s not a goodbye – it’s an evolution… I’m now more committed than ever to continue advocating for my love for the club – the fans, the players, and the directors – wherever my journey takes me!”
