Szoboszlai Dodges Second Yellow Card for Kicking Ball Away, Leaving Arsenal Fans Fuming
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai managed to escape a second yellow card for kicking the ball away after the referee had blown the whistle against Nottingham Forest, leaving Arsenal fans feeling frustrated and cheated.
The Reds suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Forest at Anfield, with Callum Hudson-Odoi scoring the only goal of the match on 72 minutes. Liverpool had 15 shots on goal but couldn’t find a way past the Forest defense.
In a incident that has sparked outrage among Arsenal fans, Szoboszlai was seen kicking the ball away after the referee had called a foul and was about to award a free-kick. The Hungarian midfielder had already been given a yellow card earlier in the game, leading many to believe that he should have been shown a second yellow and subsequently a red card.
"This is just ridiculous. Szoboszlai already on a yellow, boots the ball away after the ref calls for a free-kick. No second yellow. Pretends to be shocked," one fan tweeted.
Another fan pointed out that Szoboszlai’s actions were eerily similar to those of Arsenal’s Declan Rice, who was given a yellow card for kicking the ball away in a match against Brighton.
"No red card for Szoboszlai there? He booted the ball after the whistle was blown. Guess it’s only an Arsenal thing," the fan tweeted.
A third fan argued that Szoboszlai’s actions were deliberate and that he should have been punished accordingly.
"Szoboszlai should be getting his second yellow card for booting the ball away there. It’s not like he didn’t know what he was doing," the fan tweeted.
While the decision to not give Szoboszlai a second yellow card was ultimately the referee’s to make, it’s clear that Arsenal fans feel that justice was not served.
