Meet the barbecue king giving stars like Poch, Messi, Alisson a taste of home

The Argentine Chef Who’s Bringing a Taste of Home to the Premier League

In a league where players from all over the world come together to battle it out on the pitch, one man has found a way to bring a taste of home to the South American stars of the Premier League. Meet Nico Frangione, the Argentine chef who’s been firing up the grills and serving up a slice of nostalgia to the likes of Lionel Messi, Alisson Becker, and Douglas Luiz.

Frangione’s journey began when he met his Argentine wife in London. As he got to know her and her homeland better, he fell in love with the traditional asados (barbecues) that were a staple of Argentine culture. What started as a hobby soon turned into a business, as Frangione began catering for South American players in the Premier League.

"I’d cook for my wife and her friends, and they’d bring their friends, and before I knew it, I had a whole group of people who loved my food," Frangione tells 90min. "It was like a big family reunion, and I realized that this was something that could bring people together."

As word of his delicious asados spread, Frangione started getting requests from players and coaches alike. Today, he’s cooked for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle United, among others.

But it’s not just the food that’s the draw – it’s the sense of community and connection that Frangione’s asados provide. For players who are far from home, a taste of familiar flavors can be a comforting reminder of where they came from.

"It’s a way for them to get together socially with their club mates over the asado," Frangione explains. "It’s what they’ve always been used to, it’s part of the culture and it makes them feel at home."

Frangione’s custom-made grills are also a hit with the players. He’s designed them to reflect the unique cultural heritage of each player, with designs inspired by everything from Argentine flags to Brazilian soccer jerseys.

"We listen to everything and build them the best," Frangione says. "Often, they customize it, so it really becomes a unique piece, which we hope they’ll keep for a lifetime."

As the Premier League season heats up, Frangione’s asados are in high demand. And with players like Messi, Otamendi, and Martinez on his client list, it’s clear that he’s doing something right.

So the next time you’re watching the Premier League, keep an eye out for the players who are fueling up on Frangione’s delicious asados. And who knows – maybe you’ll even spot him firing up the grill at a match-day barbecue.
