Lamine Yamal’s Breathtaking Goal vs France Follows Cold Social Media Post
Spain’s 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal produced a goal for the ages in the Euro 2024 semi-final against France, but not before sending a cryptic message on social media that left many scratching their heads.
The Barcelona wonderkid, who turns 17 on Saturday, levelled the score with an unstoppable effort that left French goalkeeper Mike Maignan with no chance. The goal was Yamal’s first in the Euros and made him the youngest ever scorer in the competition’s history.
But what made the goal even more remarkable was the cold social media post Yamal made just hours before the match. The graphic read: "Move in silence, only speak when it is time to say checkmate." It was a message that seemed to suggest Yamal was planning to make a statement on the pitch, and boy did he ever.
The French team, led by Adrien Rabiot, had been talking about Yamal and how he needed to do more than what he did in previous games to get past Les Bleus. But Yamal clearly took their words to heart and responded with a breathtaking display that left France’s defenders in his wake.
The graphic Yamal posted was a nod to his opponents, saying that he would not be silenced and would make his presence known on the pitch. And make it known he did, with a goal that will be remembered for years to come.
Yamal’s performance has put him firmly in the spotlight, and he is now a strong contender for the Player of the Tournament award. He and his La Roja teammates have the chance to win Spain a fourth European Championship in Sunday’s final in Berlin.
