YAMAL MAKES HISTORY! Rodri & Mainoo surge as Euro 2024 market values revealed!

Lamine Yamal Breaks €100m Mark: Euro 2024 Market Value Update

The European Championship has come and gone, leaving a trail of superstars in its wake. Among the most impressive performers was Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old winger who burst onto the scene and left a lasting impression on fans and coaches alike. In our latest market value update, we’re shining the spotlight on the stars who saw their values rise during the tournament, including Yamal, who now boasts a staggering €120m market value.

Spain’s Golden Generation

Six Spanish players were part of the victorious Euro 2024 squad, and their market values reflect their impressive performances. Rodri, the talented holding midfielder, saw his value rise by €10m to €120m, making him the most valuable holding midfielder in world football. His teammates, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, also saw their values increase, to €70m and €60m respectively.

The Rise of Lamine Yamal

Yamal’s remarkable journey began just a year ago, when he entered the transfer market with a record-breaking €25m value. After a dazzling display at Euro 2024, he’s now worth €120m, making him the first player under 19 to break the €100m mark in Transfermarkt’s history. As Iván Turmo, Transfermarkt Area Manager Spain, puts it, "Yamal was a household name for most football fans, but now the whole world knows him. Best young player of the tournament, top assister in the entire tournament. At 17 years old, he has broken a number of records and made a decisive contribution to the European Championship title."

England’s Lone Hero

In a tournament where only one member of the England squad saw their market value increase, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo stands out as the shining light. Despite being just 17, Mainoo forced his way into the starting lineup and showed remarkable composure in the big games. His market value rose by €5m to €55m, making him the fifth most valuable teenager in world football.

Other Standouts

Turkey’s Arda Güler saw his value increase by €15m to €45m, while Italy’s Riccardo Calafiori and Georgia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili both rose by €15m to €45m. Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala’s impressive display saw his market value rise by €10m to €130m, making him level with Florian Wirtz as Germany’s most valuable asset.

Why Only Players See Value Increases

As Artjom Zavodnyk, Transfermarkt coordinator for market values and international operations, explains, "The European Championship is a showcase for players to attract the eyes of the world. Therefore, only footballers who were able to significantly improve their status during the tournament and/or who played their way into the international spotlight were considered, which ultimately leads to increased interest on the transfer market."

How Transfermarkt Values Work

Transfermarkt values are calculated using various pricing models and input from the transfer market community. The aim is to provide an expected value, rather than a predicted price. As Iván Turmo explains, "The transfer market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent."
