Wrexham Boss Confirms Star Striker Paul Mullin to Miss Early Games of the New Season
The much-awaited return to League One by Wrexham AFC will begin without their star striker Paul Mullin, who is undergoing surgery to address a long-standing lower back and hamstring issue.
In a revealing update, manager Phil Parkinson stated that the surgery will ensure that Mullin returns to full fitness without compromising the duration of the 2024-25 season.
Mullin is currently expected to miss at least two to three games at the beginning of the campaign. Although this comes as a disappointment for the Wrexham fans, the team’s boss assures that their 29-year-old talisman is receiving treatment to become match fit quickly.
"As we anticipated, it’s a difficult injury that’s been going on for some time," Parkinson mentioned in his candid conversation with The Leader. "Mulls had a period of rest, but his condition didn’t show any substantial progress. We realized it would be best to explore other treatment options, and, fortunately, having this surgery now enables him to minimize his absence in the first instance."
The striker suffered a setback during the pre-season, initially due to a lung puncture and rib fractures received in a friendly against Manchester United, causing him to miss several games last campaign. Now, in this second injury blow within two years, his teammates must prepare to face a league-defying Wycombe Wanderers squad in their opening fixtures on August 10th.
Wrexham have not had such an enormous boost in their transfer policy like they did this year to sustain their League Two survival status for the final six league games. Hence, we won’t put too much reliance on a substitute performance from someone in front of the goalposts like he or she they may bring forth a few key strikes upfront as well at home side or away one too like when they made 18 matches unbeaten under boss.
