A 32-year-old woman went to a doctor’s office in La Perla, Callao, for abdominal liposuction. The intervention began on the morning of last August 17, but hours later the woman’s condition deteriorated. She was taken to Cayetano Heredia Hospital, where staff confirmed that she was already dead.
The matter did not end there, as after investigation the two doctors in charge of the operation were arrested and could be charged with murder.

The surgical intervention was performed last Wednesday morning at ten o’clock. The woman, who knew one of the doctors who was going to operate on her, arrived at the facility two hours early to undergo liposuction, which will last four hours. However, he did not come out of the operating room alive, despite the fact that according to his relatives, he was in good health. A few days back, the woman underwent a similar medical study.
At 4 p.m., the non-commissioned officer of health PNP Silupu Pena, who was on duty at the Cayetano Heredia Hospital, reported the victim’s admission. The agent explained that the doctors on duty limited themselves only to authenticate the death. The investigation was immediately carried out by agents of the Homicide Division, led by Colonel Victor Revoredo.
Investigators confirmed that the woman had undergone liposuction since morning. However, the patient suffered a decompression. They tried to revive him, but unable to stabilize him, they shifted him to a health facility, where nothing could be done to save his life.
Personnel in charge of the investigation went to the office where the operation was performed and found that the premises did not have an operating license or authorization from the Callao Regional Health Directorate. Similarly, it does not have a surgery room or suitable equipment.
Doctors Mario Pucate and Romulo lvarez were transferred to the Dirincri Homicide Division. Both were going to charge US$2,000 for the intervention.
Police attempt to determine whether the “surgeon title” enabled specialists to perform this type of aesthetic practice. According to reports, one of them had previous complaints from other patients and in the other investigation it was found that the doctor’s office was not authorized by any health network.
