China will send Russia to participate in joint military exercises Aimed at “improving the level of strategic cooperation”, the Asian country’s defense ministry indicated.
Beijing and Moscow maintain close defense ties, and China has said it wants to take bilateral ties with Russia to a “higher level” subject to Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine.
China’s defense ministry said on Wednesday that its participation in the annual “Vostok” exercise, to be held from August 30 to September 5, is part of a bilateral cooperation agreement between the two powers, according to Moscow.
The Chinese ministry assured that others including India, Belarus, Mongolia and Tajikistan will also participate in the exercise.
“The goal is to deepen practical and friendly cooperation between the armies of the participating countries, to increase the level of strategic cooperation between the participating parties, and to strengthen the ability to respond to various security threats,” he said.
