The Pointless Bus Journey: Bodo/Glimt’s Short and Sweet Trip to Victory
In a bizarre tale of UEFA rules and European nights, Bodo/Glimt’s players embarked on a 30-second bus journey to their home stadium, Aspmyra, ahead of their Europa League clash against FC Porto. The Norwegian club’s players would normally walk the 220-meter trip to the ground, but when the lights are shining bright for European competition, they’re forced to follow strict rules and arrive on their team bus.
"We have to follow UEFA’s rules, so we take the bus," Bodo/Glimt team manager Truls Bjerke told Norwegian broadcaster NRK. The decision may seem petty to some, but for Bodo/Glimt, it’s a necessary evil in their quest for success in the Europa League.
Jens Petter Hauge, one of Bodo/Glimt’s star players, wasn’t fazed by the short journey. "That’s fine. We get told that’s how it is, so we won’t waste any more energy on it," he said. "We’ll park there, jump on the bus, and get ready for the match."
The Real Story: A Shocking Victory
The actual story, however, is one of drama and upsets. Bodo/Glimt’s 3-2 win over Porto was a shock to many, with the Portuguese giants touted as one of the favorites to lift the Europa League trophy this season. Kasper Hogh and Jens Petter Hauge both found the back of the net, sealing a stunning victory for the Norwegian outfit.
Porto’s manager, Vítor Bruno, opened up on their lackluster display after the game. "We started well, but we never felt we had the game under control. The opposition managed to get to our goal frequently, and we conceded the third goal with the opposition down to ten men."
Bruno also dismissed talk of Porto being the favorites to win the competition. "If I could, I wouldn’t kick that idea to the curb. I’d kick it out of the stadium. It’s too much of a burden for a very young squad."
What’s Next?
The Europa League is set to continue, with Bodo/Glimt facing a tough test in the next round. But for now, the Norwegian club will bask in the glory of their stunning victory. Will they be able to keep their winning streak going, or will they come back down to earth in their next match?
