Why Dani Olmo CAN’T play for Barcelona despite signing being announced

Dani Olmo’s Barcelona Debut Delayed: The Reason Why

Dani Olmo has been officially unveiled as a Barcelona player, but despite the excitement, he still hasn’t taken to the pitch for his new club. The reason behind the delay is quite simple: financial restraints. The Spanish side is struggling to balance their books, and Olmo’s registration is yet to be completed.

The 26-year-old midfielder was announced as a Barcelona player on August 9, transferring from Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig for a reported fee of £51million. However, he hasn’t been named in any of the club’s three matches this season. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are working on exits for Clement Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque to generate enough funds to register Olmo.

Lenglet’s transfer to Atletico Madrid appears to be the most imminent, with Christensen also attracting interest from Premier League clubs. Completing any one of these deals would free up the necessary funds for Olmo’s registration.

Olmo was a standout player for Spain at Euro 2024, showcasing his individual talent and ability to link up with his teammates. Barcelona has high hopes for the 26-year-old, describing him as "a young player with a nose for goal" who can score from both inside and outside the penalty area.

After his transfer was official, Olmo took to social media to thank his former club, where he won two German Cups. "A young club, a young player. We grew up, won our first trophies, and made history together," he said. "Thank you RB Leipzig, you’ll forever be in my heart."

With Olmo’s registration delayed, fans will have to wait a little longer to see him in action for Barcelona. But with the club working to strengthen their finances, it’s only a matter of time before the Spanish midfielder takes to the pitch.
