Ben White’s Future with England Remains Unclear
As Lee Carsley prepares to name his first squad as the interim manager of the English national team, attention is turning to whether Arsenal star Ben White will make a comeback to the setup.
For those who may have forgotten, White was last selected for the Three Lions during the 2022 World Cup, but has since been absent due to a disagreement with then-assistant coach Steve Holland. The Telegraph reported that the issue surrounded a question of respect, and the defender has been frozen out since.
The good news for Arsenal fans is that Carsley has promised to put his own stamp on the selection, but it seems unlikely that White will be given a recall. According to the Daily Mail, the defender has not expressed a change in stance since Southgate and Holland’s departure, and is expected to continue to focus on his club career.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, White’s agent Alexander Levack revealed that there has been little discussion about a potential return to the national team. "It’s all ifs, buts and maybes [when or if he plays again]. It’s just hard to comment at the minute – it’s not something we’ve spoken in depth about," Levack said.
It seems that White is focusing on helping Arsenal mount a title challenge, and it’s unlikely that we’ll see him return to the national team anytime soon. "We would like to continue to do so" with regards to keeping the situation private, Levack added. "There are reasons, and they’ll be remaining private."
So, it looks like we’ll have to wait and see if White changes his tune in the future. Until then, let’s keep an eye on developments.
