Wayne Rooney Reveals His Best and Worst Manchester United Teammates
Wayne Rooney, the legendary Manchester United forward, has opened up about his time at Old Trafford, revealing which of his former teammates he considers the best and worst.
Speaking on rugby league legend Rob Burrow’s podcast, seven, Rooney was asked who his favorite teammate was during his 11-year spell at United. And it’s not Cristiano Ronaldo or Paul Scholes – it’s Darren Fletcher.
"I’d say Darren Fletcher, he’s my best mate," Rooney said. "We sat next to each other in the dressing room and shared really good moments on and off the pitch together. We’re really good friends, so I’d say Darren Fletcher is my best teammate and closest."
Fletcher, a product of United’s academy, made over 300 appearances for the club, playing alongside Rooney for 11 years. The pair formed a strong bond, both on and off the pitch, and Rooney’s praise for his former teammate is well-deserved.
But Rooney didn’t stop there, revealing who he thought was his worst teammate. And it’s not who you’d expect.
"My worst teammate… there are a lot more than you’d probably think! On the pitch, the toughest one was Nani," Rooney said. "He was frustrating to play with."
Nani, a winger known for his pace and skill, was a key player for United during his time at the club. However, Rooney’s comments suggest that the Portuguese winger could be a bit of a handful to play alongside.
Rooney’s comments come as no surprise, given his reputation as one of the most respected and honest players in the game. And it’s clear that he has a deep appreciation for his former teammates, both good and bad.
