Viral Tiktok Shows Colorado Floor Collapsing at Crowded Party

The floor of an Aurora, Colorado home collapsed during an overcrowded birthday party with 100 or more teenage guests on Feb. 26, local officials said.

The party was organized by the owners with the intention of celebrating their grandson’s 18th birthday. The event was recorded and went viral on TikTok with over 6.5 million views.

Officials responded to a 911 call saying “people were dying,” South Metro Fire spokesman Connor Christian said.

Three teenagers were transported to a nearby hospital, where one suffered serious injuries.

A building department official confirmed that the weight of approximately 100 to 150 teenagers was the cause of the collapse, Christian said in a statement to USA TODAY.

“Probably two seconds before the ground ended up cracking, you could hear it crumbling, but you didn’t have time to do anything about it,” partygoer Cass Henry told KKTV News.

In addition to the floor collapse, a natural gas line was broken, Christian said. The line had to be shut down to prevent an explosion and fire.

The party included so many attendees because the address was leaked on social media, Henry said.

“All of us in the county were deeply concerned upon learning of this incident,” Arapahoe County Public Information Officer Luc Hatlestad said in a statement to USA TODAY. “County officials cannot comment on this, or the factors that caused it, until appropriate investigations are completed.”
