Ronaldo’s Club Reels in Overreaction as Fan Copies Messi’s Celebration in Dressing Room
Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s current club in the Saudi Pro League, has released a statement slamming a fan and YouTuber for entering the dressing room and doing Lionel Messi’s famous cupped-ear celebration in front of Ronaldo’s locker. While it’s understandable that the club wants to maintain decorum and respect for its star player, the statement comes across as a tad dramatic.
The image, which has gone viral, shows the fan mimicking Messi’s iconic celebration, which he famously did after Argentina’s World Cup-winning goal in 2022. It’s hard not to see this as a light-hearted gesture, and not a malicious attempt to disrespect Ronaldo.
Al Nassr’s statement reads: "We would like to point out that Al Nassr Club has always welcomed its visitors, fans, and supporters. However, the recent individual (irresponsible) actions inside the dressing room at First Park Stadium are unacceptable. Some people fail to recognize the significance of the team they represent, as well as the club’s heritage. They disrespected our fans."
The statement goes on to clarify that the club will address the matter internally, ensuring the "literary, moral, and material rights are preserved." While it’s commendable that the club wants to maintain a high level of professionalism, this incident seems like a relatively minor breach.
It’s worth noting that Ronaldo has been instrumental in promoting football in Saudi Arabia, so it’s no surprise that the club takes his presence very seriously. However, it’s hard not to see this as an overreaction. The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry is legendary, but there’s always been a sense of respect between the two superstars. This incident seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill.
