Thiago Silva Takes a Jab at Referee Anthony Taylor After Chelsea’s Disappointing Loss to Man City
Chelsea fell to a crushing 2-0 defeat against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, and the loss left more questions than answers for the Blues. With Manchester City’s star-studded attack wreaking havoc on the Chelsea backline, it’s no surprise that they managed to secure the three points. Erling Haaland scored in the first half, while Mateo Kovacic added to their lead in the second.
In what may have been a hint of frustration after the loss, former Chelsea captain Thiago Silva appeared to take a dig at referee Anthony Taylor on Instagram. Posting an Instagram story with a series of eye emojis, a waving hand, and the repeated name "Anthonyyyyyyyyyyy," it’s clear that Silva has his doubts about Taylor’s refereeing prowess.
This isn’t the first time that Silva has expressed his displeasure at Taylor’s decisions. In 2022, Silva was left fuming after Taylor failed to spot a pull by Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero on Marc Cucurella, leading to a late equalizing goal for Spurs.
Despite Silva’s gripes, Chelsea’s new coach, Enzo Maresca, praised the team’s performance, saying, "I thought our performance was good. We don’t like to lose, but I thought the performance was there. We competed against the best team in the world, and we competed for large parts at the same level… we created chances and we’re working hard to improve game by game."
Maresca expressed confidence in the team’s ability to get better with each match, saying, "We are improving, and I said the other day that I didn’t expect the team to already be this ahead… the direction is a good one and I don’t have any doubt that day by day, we’re going to get better, and we will be happier."
