Erik ten Hag Takes a Dig at Cristiano Ronaldo’s Comments
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent criticism, saying that the Portuguese forward is far away from Manchester and therefore, his opinions don’t hold much weight.
Ronaldo, who has been in Saudi Arabia since leaving Manchester United, recently appeared in a podcast hosted by Rio Ferdinand, where he questioned ten Hag’s approach and told the Dutch manager to stop saying that he’s not fighting to win the Premier League or Champions League titles. However, ten Hag is not having it and believes that Ronaldo’s opinions are irrelevant.
"He said Manchester United can’t win the Premier League," ten Hag said. "If you read the article very well, he is far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester, so everyone can have an opinion, and is entitled to have an opinion. It is OK."
Ten Hag and Ronaldo had a rocky relationship during their time together at Manchester United, and this latest exchange is just another sign of the tension between them. The Manchester United manager is under pressure, following a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool before the international break, and many are speculating about his future at the club.
Despite the pressure, ten Hag remains confident and has backed his team to perform better in the upcoming games. "We have to integrate a lot of young players in the team, we have to bring the injuries back into the team," he said. "Before anyone thinks about excuses, we have to win every game, I know that. The team knows this. We will focus on every game and have the mindset we have to win."
Injury updates are also coming out, with Luke Shaw and Rasmus Højlund ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Southampton, but new signing Manuel Ugarte could make his debut after returning from international duty on Thursday.
