Wrexham’s League One Odds: Can They Survive the Drop?
As Wrexham prepare for their first League One campaign in over 15 years, fans are eagerly anticipating how the new-look team will fare. The Red Dragons have invested heavily in the squad, bringing in the likes of Arthur Okonkwo, George Dobson, Seb Revan, and Dan Scarr. But, according to the Opta Analyst supercomputer, Wrexham are predicted to finish in 20th place.
The supercomputer, which runs through 10,000 simulations of the League One season, believes Wrexham have a 37% chance of relegation. They also predict the Red Dragons have a 0.6% chance of reaching the play-offs, with a highest predicted position of fourth. The most likely finishing position, by probability, is 21st, which would see Wrexham avoid relegation by just one place.
Despite these predictions, we’re not writing off Wrexham just yet. The addition of Okonkwo, Dobson, and Revan to the squad shows a commitment to improving the team’s defensive capabilities, while Scarr’s experience in League One could prove invaluable. Wrexham have also invested in their coaching staff, with Phil Parkinson at the helm.
Of course, there are also concerns about Wrexham’s ability to compete financially with the bigger clubs in League One. Their wage budget is significant, but it’s unclear whether it will be enough to attract and retain top talent. We’ll have to wait and see how the season plays out to find out.
So, can Wrexham survive the drop? We think they’ve got a good chance. With a solid squad and a decent wage budget, they’ve got the tools to make a push for the top half of the table. But, they’ll need to hit the ground running and pick up points early on to prove their doubters wrong.
