Tottenham Star Apologizes After Being Caught Inhaling Laughing Gas on Snapchat
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has apologized for his actions after a video surfaced showing him inhaling nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas" or "hippy crack", from a balloon in a limousine.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who impressed under Ange Postecoglou last season, shared the video on his Snapchat account, which has led to a police investigation and an internal inquiry by the club.
Nitrous oxide is a Class C drug controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and its use can lead to brain disorders, depression, memory loss, incontinence, hallucinations, and nerve damage. Repeat serious users can face up to two years in prison, while dealers can be punished with up to 14 years.
Bissouma’s actions have raised concerns about his judgment and responsibility as a footballer and role model. The incident has also sparked debate about the widespread use of laughing gas among young people and the need for greater awareness about its risks.
In a statement, Bissouma apologized for his actions, acknowledging that he showed a "severe lack of judgment". He also acknowledged the health risks involved and the importance of setting a good example as a footballer.
"I want to apologize for these videos," Bissouma said. "This was a severe lack of judgment. I understand how serious this is and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously."
Tottenham have launched an internal investigation into the matter, and a club spokesperson said that the incident "will be dealt with as an internal matter".
As the Premier League season approaches, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior among footballers. With the 2024-25 campaign set to kick off on August 19, Tottenham will hope that Bissouma’s apology and the club’s internal investigation will be enough to put the matter behind them.
