Karthik saluted rohit sharma‘s as captain of the Indian team in all formats on the eve of Mumbai’s batsman test captaincy debut against Sri Lanka in the game which starts here on Friday.
“A cricket country like India needs a captain,” Karthik said at the CPI Check.
“It is very easy to deal with a captain for all three formats.
“I remember MS Dhoni saying that split captaincy doesn’t work that well in India. We haven’t had that for a period of time, so we wouldn’t know. But right now when I see it, I think he (Rohit) is the man. Every time he touched something, it turned to gold. In every series he’s been a part of, he’s won convincingly.”
Karthik also praised Rohit for the way he has used Indian bowlers and his handling of young players.
India recently completed 3-0 series sweeps in T20Is against New Zealand, the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
“He has shown a lot of tactical sense in the games he has played. He moved the bowlers very well, gave the batsmen confidence and when they won a series, he gave the youngsters chances,” Karthik said.
“Sometimes he takes a backseat, hitting at a position where he obviously hasn’t hit in a long time. So, he’s doing a lot of things right.”
