Real Madrid’s star forward Kylian Mbappé is set to miss at least three weeks of action after suffering a thigh injury during their 3-2 LaLiga win over Alavés on Sunday. The French international was substituted in the 80th minute after complaining of discomfort in his left leg, and subsequent tests have confirmed the extent of the injury.
According to a source close to the club, Mbappé will be out for at least three weeks, ruling him out of the eagerly anticipated El Clásico derby against Atlético Madrid this weekend. The France international has been in exceptional form this season, netting five times in LaLiga, and his absence will be a significant blow to Real Madrid’s title aspirations.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti described Mbappé’s injury as a "knock" after the match, suggesting that the player had requested to be substituted to avoid any further complications. Madrid have since confirmed the extent of the injury, revealing that Mbappé has suffered an injury to his femoral biceps.
The news will come as a significant blow to Madrid, who were already dealing with a busy schedule that includes Champions League matches against Lille and LaLiga games against Villarreal and Atlético Madrid. Mbappé’s absence will give Atlético a significant advantage in their derby showdown, with Madrid’s attack struggling to click into gear without their talismanic forward.
Mbappé’s form has been a key factor in Madrid’s strong start to the season, and his absence will give Ancelotti a selection headache as he looks to replace him. The Italian coach has a wealth of attacking talent at his disposal, but none have been able to replicate Mbappé’s pace, power, and precision in front of goal.
