Real Madrid’s star forward Kylian Mbappé is set to miss the upcoming derby against Atlético Madrid after suffering a thigh injury, a source close to the club has confirmed. The French international was substituted in the 80th minute of Madrid’s 3-2 LaLiga win over Alavés, complaining of discomfort in his left leg.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti initially described the issue as a "knock," but further tests revealed a more serious injury. "Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the femoral biceps of his left leg," the club announced.
The three-week absence will see Mbappé miss not only the derby against Atlético but also Madrid’s upcoming Champions League and LaLiga fixtures, including a clash with Villarreal and the international break with France.
Madrid’s loss is a significant blow, as they were looking to build on their impressive start to the season. With 17 points from seven games, they trail leaders Barcelona by just a few points.
