Roy Keane slams ‘arrogant’ England players and the ‘awful’ thing he spotted in win over Ireland

Roy Keane Slams England’s "Arrogance" After Ireland Win

England’s 2-0 victory over Ireland in the UEFA Nations League may have gotten their campaign off to a winning start, but it was Roy Keane’s post-match comments that stole the spotlight. The former Manchester United captain slammed England’s players for showing "arrogance" in their performance, particularly in the second half.

Keane, who was commentating for ITV, criticized England’s decision-making, movement, and quality in the first half, saying they dominated the game. However, he felt they were poor in the second half, with players playing for themselves and taking too many touches.

"I thought they were awful in the second half," Keane said. "Players playing for themselves, taking too many touches, trying to play Roy of the Rovers passes. Ireland played with a lot of pride in the second half, but as good as England were in the first half, I thought they were just as bad in the second half."

Keane’s outburst came after he had strongly criticized the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) during the half-time break. While his comments may have been harsh, they highlighted the frustration England fans must have felt during the game.

Despite Keane’s criticism, interim manager Lee Carsley was pleased with his team’s performance, saying: "I thought it was good in parts. You’ve seen some of the things we’ve tried to do. The lads have to take all of the credit."

The win marks a promising start for England in the Nations League, and they’ll look to build on it when they face Finland at Wembley on Tuesday. Declan Rice and Jack Grealish scored the goals for England, with Rice refusing to celebrate his goal and Grealish pumping his fist in front of the England supporters after scoring.
