Roy Keane’s Brutal Verdict on Chelsea’s Pedro Neto Signing
Roy Keane has never been one to mince his words, and his latest outburst is no exception. The former Manchester United captain has launched a scathing attack on Chelsea’s £54 million signing, Pedro Neto, comparing him to Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
Keane’s brutal assessment came during a recent episode of ‘Stick to Football’, a podcast powered by Sky Bet. When co-host Ian Wright suggested that Neto could be one of the signings of the season, Keane was quick to dismiss the idea.
"No! He’s always injured! F*** sake. He’s like [Luke] Shaw," Keane said. "He’ll add to the chaos. He’s going to add to the chaos. He will run everywhere and then spend six months on the treatment table with a hamstring injury."
Neto’s injury record is a serious concern, having missed eight games in November/December time and a further nine games towards the end of the campaign. The Portugal international did make a substitute appearance against Liverpool on the final day of the season, but Keane’s assessment is damning.
Chelsea have spent £185 million on 10 signings this summer, with Neto being their most expensive addition. However, Keane’s prediction is that Neto will struggle to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Neto’s stats back up Keane’s concerns. In 20 Premier League appearances last season, he scored just two goals and provided one assist. His injury record is a major concern, and it’s hard to see how he will fit into Chelsea’s plans.
Chelsea begin their new season against champions Manchester City on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see how Neto performs. Will he be able to shake off his injury concerns and make a meaningful contribution to the team? Only time will tell.
