Ronaldo Returns to Form as Al Nassr Wins First Game Under Pioli
Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his third goal of the season as Al Nassr defeated Al Ettifaq 3-0 in their Saudi Pro League encounter. The Portuguese superstar opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, marking a much-needed victory for the team under their new coach, Stefano Pioli.
Pioli, who was appointed just days ago, has faced the challenge of turning Al Nassr’s season around. The team had started the campaign poorly, with just one win in three games. But Ronaldo’s clinical finish, followed by goals from Salem Al-Najdi and Anderson Talisca in the second half, has given them a much-needed boost.
Al Ettifaq, coached by Steven Gerrard, will be disappointed to have conceded three goals, but they remain third in the standings. Al Nassr, on the other hand, has moved up to fourth, still trailing the leaders Al Ahli and Al Ittihad.
In other matches, Ivan Toney bagged two goals for Al Ahli as they beat Damac 4-2. Toney, who signed from Brentford in August, has made an impressive start to his Saudi adventure. His first goals for the club will have come as a relief, following a slow start to his career in the Middle East.
Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino was also on target for Al Ahli, as they maintained their strong form. The Saudi league is shaping up to be a thrilling competition, with several teams vying for the top spots.
