Brazilian veteran Ronaldo has taken out of the race to be the president of the country’s Football Association after finding “closed doors” for his candidature.
The 48 -year -old, which was overshadowed 98 times, was planning to challenge Adenaldo Rodrigues, President of Football (CBF) at the Confederation of Brazil.
The word Rodrigues lasts till March 2026 and should have a presidential election in the next 12 months.
Ronaldo promised the national team’s “recovering reputation” when he announced his original intention of standing.
Brazil, who recorded the five -time winners of the World Cup, last won the competition in 2002 and reached the semi -finals in 2014.
However, former Barcelona, Inter Match and Real Madrid Strikers have decided to withdraw as most regional associations of Brazilian “support the Congress”.
Ronaldo said in a statement published on his social media channels, “I got 23 closed doors in my first contact with 27 regional associations.”
“The Sangh refused to receive me in my homes, supporting the current administration based on their satisfaction and support for support [Rodrigues’] Re -election. ,
27 regional associations in Brazil are allotted three votes in each, while 20 top-flight clubs in Siri A, Brazil are given two votes and each 20 second-tier Seri B side, one vote each.
Ronaldo said that he “respected” the rights of the Federation leaders to maintain his support for Rodrigues, but was disappointed that “had no openness for dialogue”.
He said, “The law gives the strongest vote to the associations, so it is clear that there is no way that I can run,” he said.
“I was unable to present my project, pushing my thoughts forward and wanted to hear them as I would like.”
Rodrigues is now expected to be the only candidate in next year’s election.
In 1994 and 2002, World Cup winner Ronaldo is second in the all-time top scorer list of the competition behind Miroslav Close, Germany with 15 goals in 19 performances.
He had 17 years in his international career and consisted of two Copa America title and one Olympic bronze medal.
Brazil has won Copa America once since Ronaldo’s international retirement in 2011 and was dropped from the 2022 World Cup by Croatia in the quarter -finals.
