Real Madrid Seals U.S. Tour with 2-1 Win over Chelsea
It was the final curtain call for Real Madrid’s summer tour of the United States, and they closed it out with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Despite the absence of superstars Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham, Madrid still showed plenty of firepower against their Premier League counterparts.
The hosts came out flying, with Lucas Vázquez opening the scoring with a goalmouth scramble goal in the 20th minute. Just after the break, Brahim Díaz made it 2-0 with a clinical finish after a great through ball from Vinícius Júnior. Chelsea’s Noni Madueke pulled one back before halftime with a towering header from an Enzo Fernández cross, giving the Blues hope of a comeback. However, the second half remained scoreless.
Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti will be pleased with his team’s overall performance, with the LaLiga champions looking strong ahead of the upcoming season. Their next challenge comes on August 14 in the UEFA Super Cup, where they’ll face Atalanta. Chelsea, on the other hand, has one more friendly to go before their Premier League campaign begins on August 18 at home to Manchester City.
The Analysis
It’s clear that Real Madrid has made a strong start to their preseason campaign. Despite the absence of key players, Ancelotti’s squad showed no signs of fatigue and dominated much of the match against Chelsea. Vázquez’s opener set the tone, while Díaz’s finish highlighted the team’s speed and precision going forward. Defense has always been Madrid’s Achilles’ heel, but their backline looked solid against a Chelsea team that struggled to create many clear-cut chances.
The Next Step
For Real Madrid, the focus now shifts to the UEFA Super Cup and the LaLiga season, which kicks off in early September. Expectations are always high at the Santiago Bernabéu, but Ancelotti’s side appears well-prepared to mount another title challenge. Stay tuned for more updates as the season unfolds!
