Retired treble winner claims he could have been in GOAT debate with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi but ‘didn’t feel like it’

The GOAT Debate Will Never End: Ex-Treble Winner Claims He Could Have Been as Good as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

The debate between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time (GOAT) is one that will likely go on forever. While both players have dominated the sport with impressive skills and winning records, it’s interesting to consider whether others could’ve achieved similar feats if they chose to.

Wesley Sneijder, a former Real Madrid and Netherlands star, says he could’ve been as good as the dueling superstars, but didn’t feel like it. He told Gianluca Di Marzio, “I could have become like Messi or Ronaldo. I simply didn’t feel like it. I enjoyed my life, maybe I had a glass [of wine] at dinner. Leo and Cristiano are different, they have made many sacrifices.”

Sneijder’s impressive career included winning the treble with Inter Milan, as well as individual awards like the Silver Boot and Bronze Ball at the 2010 World Cup. He also had the opportunity to play alongside some of the best players in the world, including Spanish legend Guti, who he considered the best teammate he ever played with.

“When I started at Real Madrid, he didn’t talk to me for three months, because he ended up on the bench because of me. But then we started playing together and we had an incredible understanding. He’s a phenomenal player, probably the best I’ve ever played with,” Sneijder said.

Ronaldo is currently playing for Saudi Arabian side Al Nasser, while Messi has joined MLS side Inter Miami. The GOAT debate may never be settled, but it’s certain that both players will continue to inspire and impress fans around the world.
