Jio reportedly has plans for a new 5G JioPhone that could launch later this year, as many reports have suggested. However, it seems that the JioPhone 5G is not the only product that the company is working on. Reports of an ARM-based JioBook have also started to surface.
A new report from 91Mobiles details some new findings in the JioBook. The laptop could be a budget laptop, which like the JioPhone Next, could be offered at a low price, and perhaps multiple EMI options that could allow users to purchase the laptop at a small upfront cost and pay the remaining amount in installments later. .
Aside from the laptop being ARM-based instead of x86, we don’t know much about the JioBook at the moment. The presentation also mentions that the OEM of the laptop is “Emdoor Digital Technology Co., Ltd”, a Chinese company based in Shenzhen.
Note that there have also been reports of a JioBook being released with Android and a Qualcomm chipset powering the device. This could be a bug or it could mean that we may see multiple variants of the JioBook release together. There should be more information in the coming months.
When might the JioBook be released?
While there is no officially revealed launch schedule or leaks regarding it, Reliance’s annual AGM event is a good candidate for the launch. The company has launched its JioPhone models at the Annual General Meeting, which usually takes place in July every year. We could see the launch of both the JioPhone 5G and the JioBook at this time, although a completely separate launch event for either product before the AGM event cannot be ruled out either.
