Euro 2024 Final Referee Has Unusual Part-Time Job
The referee for the highly anticipated Euro 2024 final between Spain and England has been appointed, and it’s been revealed that he has an interesting part-time job on the side.
Francois Letexier, a 35-year-old French referee, will be in charge of the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Letexier has already taken charge of two group fixtures and a round of 16 tie at the tournament, and this will be his fourth game at the Euros.
But what’s unusual about Letexier is that he’s a part-time court bailiff. Yes, you read that right! In his spare time, Letexier works as a court bailiff, a job that requires him to enforce court orders and evict people from properties.
Letexier started refereeing as a teenager and has taken charge of 65 official UEFA matches, including the Super Cup between Manchester City and Sevilla. He’s also officiated several high-profile matches in Ligue One, France’s top division.
But how did he get into refereeing in the first place? Letexier revealed in an interview with UEFA that he was attracted to the referees’ work because of the way they viewed the game and made decisions. He struggled early on, but thanks to the support of his colleagues and mentors, he was able to grow and develop as a referee.
Letexier will be assisted by compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, with 2022 World Cup final ref Szymon Marciniak serving as fourth official.
