Real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti Confirms No More Summer Signings
Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Real Madrid will not be making any more signings this summer, despite missing out on some key targets. The Italian boss has had a busy transfer window so far, bringing in the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Endrick.
However, it seems that’s where the recruitment drive ended for Los Blancos. Ancelotti confirmed that the squad is now "closed", with no players planned to join the team before the season starts.
This news comes as something of a surprise, given that the club was previously linked with moves for French centre-back Leny Yoro, who ultimately decided to join Manchester United instead. As a result, Ancelotti’s side has been left struggling to fill the gap left by the departed Nacho and Rafa Marin.
But the Real Madrid coach doesn’t seem too concerned. Ancelotti pointed to the returning Jesús Vallejo, David Alaba’s recovery from injury, and the presence of young talent like Joan, Jacobo, and Raul Asencio as evidence of his side’s strength in depth.
"We have young centre-backs who are training and have a lot of quality," Ancelotti said. "I believe we are well covered in this position."
It seems that the main focus for Ancelotti now is on adapting his side to life without Toni Kroos, who retired from football after the recent Euro 2024 tournament. Despite Kroos’ impressive nine-year stint at the Bernabéu, his departure was inevitable given his advanced age.
But Ancelotti is confident that his side can bounce back from Kroos’ absence, drawing on the strengths of players like Luka Modrić and Casemiro to name a few. "We are missing Kroos," the coach acknowledged, "but we have possibilities to replace him, although in a different way because there is no player like him, with his quality."
So, what’s next for Real Madrid? They kick off their US summer tour against AC Milan on Wednesday at Soldier Field in Chicago, before facing off against eternal rivals FC Barcelona on August 3. They round out the trip against Chelsea on August 6.
