Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United’s Danish forward, has addressed the backlash he received after his Instagram post following Thursday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Porto.

The 23-year-old made his first start of the season for United on Thursday and marked the occasion by scoring his side’s second goal in the 20th minute. However, the Red Devils conceded three unanswered goals in the second half to trail 3-2 before Harry Maguire’s stoppage-time equalizer salvaged a draw.

Hojlund’s post-game celebrations seemed to be the center of attention, with Manchester United fans taking to social media to express their displeasure at his focus on his personal achievement rather than the disappointing performance.

Responding to the criticism on his Instagram story, Hojlund apologized for the timing of his post, explaining that he was merely thrilled to be back scoring goals again after a frustrating period. He also stressed his commitment to the team’s goals and promised to give everything to make up for his mistake.

It’s understood that Hojlund was under pressure after struggling to find his footing in his substitute appearances early in the season. Missing the start of the season due to a pre-season injury, he has only recently regained his fitness. Playing 68 minutes on Thursday before being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, Hojlund will look to continue his development against Aston Villa on Sunday.
