Rafa Benitez Just Destroyed Jamie Carragher with a Savage £200m Comment That Left Gary Neville in Stitches
Rafa Benitez, the former Liverpool and Everton boss, recently appeared on the Stick to Football podcast, and he didn’t hold back when discussing his time in the Premier League. The Spaniard had some choice words for his former player Jamie Carragher, leaving Gary Neville and the rest of the panel in stitches.
Benitez is currently without a club after being sacked by Celta Vigo last season, but he’s still making waves with his opinions. The 64-year-old has had a storied career, with his time at Liverpool being particularly impressive. However, his stint at Everton was met with mixed reviews, and Benitez was quick to defend his record.
"I have some Everton fans say ‘We saved the club’ because we didn’t spend the money. So if we spent the money it would have been even worse," Benitez claimed.
Benitez also discussed the changes he’s had to adapt to as a manager, particularly in regards to the transfer market. He couldn’t help but take a dig at Carragher, who joked that if Gerrard and Carragher were available for transfer, Benitez would have to pay £200m for Gerrard and £20m for Carragher.
Benitez responded with a cheeky comment of his own, saying "If you want to buy Gerrard & Carragher this time, you pay £200m. £180m for Gerrard and £20m for Carragher." The comment left Gary Neville, Jill Scott, and Roy Keane in hysterics.
Carragher played under Benitez for six years at Liverpool, starting the infamous 2005 Champions League final that saw the Reds come from 3-0 down to defeat AC Milan.
