Premier League club pull out of facing Wrexham in a pre-season friendly at the last minute

Wrexham Kick Off Pre-Season in Style, But Premier League Opponent Pulls Out

Wrexham AFC is gearing up for life in League One, but their pre-season schedule got off to an unexpected start with a hastily arranged friendly against non-league side Hanley Town. The Welsh club was originally set to face a Premier League opponent behind closed doors, but the top-flight team pulled out due to complications with their own pre-season tour.

The Dragons’ boss, Phil Parkinson, spoke to the Leader about the last-minute change: "We had a game organised against a Premier League club behind closed doors at their training ground which they pulled out of because of complications with their pre-season tour." Parkinson added, "We had to quickly arrange an alternative and we went to Hanley, looked at the pitch and spoke to the owner. They moved their fixtures around to accommodate us, but the upside for them is that they’re going to attract a fantastic crowd which can help them with the budget going forward."

Wrexham’s Rise to Prominence

Wrexham’s rise to League One is nothing short of meteoric. Purchased by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the club achieved back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One. The club’s new owners have been instrumental in shaping the team’s fortunes, and it’s clear that their passion and commitment to the club will continue to drive success.

Upcoming Fixtures

Wrexham’s pre-season schedule is packed with exciting matches, including a trip to North America to face Premier League opponents Bournemouth and Chelsea, as well as Vancouver Whitecaps. The club will also face League Two outfit Fleetwood Town in their final pre-season friendly before the League One campaign begins.

The Road Ahead

Wrexham’s first test in League One will be against Wycombe Wanderers on August 10. With a tough schedule ahead, the club will need to be in top form to navigate the challenges of the third tier. We’ll be keeping a close eye on their progress and providing updates throughout the season.
