Peter Schmeichel goes against everyone else with unique perspective on Leandro Trossard’s red card and it’s quickly gone viral

Peter Schmeichel Lashes Out at Michael Oliver Over Leandro Trossard Red Card

Premier League legend Peter Schmeichel has sparked debate by claiming that Michael Oliver was wrong to send off Leandro Trossard during Arsenal’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

The Norway international was given his marching orders by Oliver after receiving a second yellow card for delaying the restart, moments after bundling Bernardo Silva to the ground.

But Schmeichel, a former Manchester United keeper, believes that Oliver erred in his decision and that Trossard shouldn’t have been given a second yellow.

"This is the biggest game in the Premier League so far!" Schmeichel exclaimed on Norwegian outlet TV 2 Sport. "Soft yellow cards! Why is Michael Oliver trying to ruin it? It’s a big game, emotions are flying high – understand what you are dealing with here, but no – Michael Oliver wants himself in the spotlight!"

Schmeichel points out that Trossard was guilty of a clear foul on Silva, saying: "He barges Bernardo Silva out of the way and then tries to kick the ball away. The whistle goes and he knows he’s been caught. He doesn’t put his foot fully through it."

The former pro believes that Arsenal’s coaches will be disappointed with Trossard’s actions after the game, saying: "They might not see it the same at the end of the game, they might look on it as stupidity. I think they will be disappointed with him when they reflect upon it."

The incident has led to further debate about consistency in refereeing decisions in the Premier League, with many fans and pundits wondering why Trossard received a second yellow while players like Declan Rice didn’t.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, however, has refused to speak publicly about the incident.

In the end, a late equaliser from John Stones ensured that City finished the match with a draw, leaving Arsenal to settle for a point.

It’s clear that the match had a huge impact on the Premier League table, with City now sitting atop the table on 13 points, while Arsenal sits two points back in fourth.
