Peru Receives World’s Best Coffee Award in Italy

A new achievement for the Peruvian coffee sector. For the second time, Incahuasi, Cusco’s coffee, puts this Peruvian in the eyes of the world, after winning the sixth edition of the SPP Coffee Awards (the symbol of the small producer).

The news was announced this Friday, June 24 after a live ceremony at the World of Coffee WOC 2022 fair, in which more than 60 countries participated in the city of Milan, Italy.

Claudio Ortiz, manager of the Valle de Incahuasi Agricultural Coffee Cooperative, was present at the ceremony and received the award of the best SPP coffee in the world on behalf of producer Julio César Chavez and all Incahuasi coffee growers, who strive to make every day the quality of your coffee.

In this way Incahuasi became a two-time champion of this important event.

Similarly, Raul Mamani, the representative producer of Sandia Province, Puno, took second place. Thus, he was also crowned as the two-time champion in this famous event. ACPC Pichnaki Cooperative (JUNIN) was also a finalist in this competition; The recognition was received by his manager Pedro Rodriguez.

“Undoubtedly, these achievements are a source of pride for the Peruvian coffee sector and contribute greatly to the image of our coffee in the world. This is a sign that we are making progress in producing more and more high quality coffee. We are on the right track”, said Ral Alanya Sarmiento, President of Central Cafe and Cacao del Peru (Central).

Incahusi is a cooperative that has been in existence for 23 years, it is a member of Central Café and Cacao del Peru and its production areas are located in the province of La Convención, Cusco, between 1,600 and 2,400 meters above sea level. Along with ACPC Pichanaki, they are part of the Specialty Coffee Community Project, promoted by Central with support from the United States Agency for International Development, USAID.

The project promotes various activities to improve Peru’s coffee production chain and the economic development of coffee growing households.

Small Producer Symbol (SPP) is an intercontinental network of small organic producers’ organizations that fight for the recognition of the high quality of their products and work for a decent life and a healthier planet for all.
