Pep Guardiola Unveils His All-Time Dream Team, and It’s No Surprise Who’s At The Top
Pep Guardiola has spent years honing his craft in the world of football, from Barcelona to Bayern Munich to Manchester City. As a result, he’s had the privilege of working with some of the game’s greatest players. But when it comes to his all-time dream team, it’s no surprise who’s at the top.
In a recent interview, Guardiola revealed his top six picks, and they’re a veritable hall of fame. Of course, the first name that comes to mind is Lionel Messi, the most decorated player in history. But taking a closer look at the rest of his team reveals some surprises and some insight into what makes a player stand out.
Funnily enough, none of his current Manchester City stars made the cut. That’s right, folks! No Kevin De Bruyne, no Sergio Aguero, and no Raheem Sterling. Instead, Guardiola opted for a mix of legends from around the globe. Let’s take a closer look.
Pele, the Brazilian icon, gets a nod, as does Diego Maradona, the Argentine maestro. Johan Cruyff, the Dutch mastermind, is also included, along with Franz Beckenbauer, the German footballing godfather. And, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese phenomenon, rounds out the sextet.
But what makes these players so special, according to Guardiola? "They have done many things for many years, these types of players make our business, our job, a better place," he mused. "What they produced for the feeling for the people. We have seen the World Cup, one team can produce for a country, it’s incredible. It’s not another event can produce this emotion. This part of exceptional players can produce the emotion for the people."
In other words, it’s not just their on-field exploits that set them apart but the lasting impact they have on the world. And, let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to be mentioned in the same breath as these legends?
