Paul Scholes makes his feelings clear on Erik ten Hag being sacked as pressure mounts on Man Utd boss

Paul Scholes Unleashes Scathing Verdict on Erik Ten Hag’s Future at Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has come down hard on Erik ten Hag, stating that the Dutch manager’s direction is uncertain and the team is drifting further away from success. In an interview with the Mirror, Scholes voiced his concerns about Ten Hag’s ability to lead the Red Devils back to their former glory.

No Direction, No Results

Scholes pointed out that United have struggled to find a consistent playing style under Ten Hag, saying, "I think the big thing from me and other people who’ve been at the club and fans, more importantly, they want to see a little bit of direction, a style of play that they can get behind. And I don’t think at this point we’re anywhere close to seeing a direction."

He also emphasized the importance of building a sense of momentum, just like Liverpool and Manchester City did before their respective title-winning seasons. "It just doesn’t feel like we’re getting anywhere near, it feels like we’re getting further away rather than closer to where the club should be," Scholes said.

A Timescale for Change?

When asked if he thinks Ten Hag should be sacked, Scholes admitted, "I’ve never asked for a manager to be sacked, it’s not a nice thing. But, you do wonder how long this can keep on going on." However, he didn’t specify a timescale for change, leaving the door open for Ten Hag to turn things around.

Alternative Solutions

If Ten Hag were to leave, current assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has been touted as a potential replacement. Scholes has worked with Van Nistelrooy in his capacity as a Salford City coach, and the former striker’s leadership skills have been praised.

United’s Uphill Battle

Manchester United are currently without a win in three games, with upcoming fixtures against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League set to provide further tests for the team. If Ten Hag is to stay, he’ll need to inspire his players to a quick turnaround in form.
