Paul Scholes didn’t hesitate when naming ‘easy pick’ for greatest Man Utd team-mate

Manchester United Legend Paul Scholes Names His Greatest Team-Mate

In a revealing interview, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes didn’t hesitate when naming his greatest ever team-mate. It’s no surprise, really, given the countless amount of talented players Scholes shared a pitch with during his illustrious career. But who was the lucky recipient of this praise? None other than the iconic Ryan Giggs.

As a midfielder, Scholes had the privilege of playing alongside some of the greatest players in the history of the sport. The "Class of 92" alumni listed off some of his favorite teammates, including Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke. However, when asked to name his greatest ever team-mate, Scholes didn’t have to think twice.

"Ryan Giggs," Scholes declared. "Easy one."

He went on to explain the chemistry they shared on the pitch. "As a midfielder, I always felt wide players and number 10s, they’re the ones that win you games. And the players I, as a midfielder, liked to link with, I go back to Teddy [Sheringham] and Yorkie [Dwight Yorke] – brilliant players. I had a real understanding with them."

That understanding was crucial in the red half of Manchester’s most successful era. Scholes reminisced about playing a season at number 10 or half-left with Ruud van Nistelrooy, thanks to Giggs’ injury. "I loved that, because just having that link with a player, you know what each other wants. That’s what makes a good team, I suppose."

The stats don’t lie – Giggs is an United legend, holding a series of records for both the club and the Premier League. His 963 appearances for United are the most in the club’s history, while his 162 assists in the Premier League are the most ever.

Giggs retired in 2014 at the age of 40, bringing an end to his incredible 24-year playing career. The Manchester United faithful will never forget his services to the club.
