Brentford’s Ivan Toney Faces Uncertain Future as Clubs Show Lack of Interest
Update: 11:45 AM, 19th July 2024 GMT+1
Ivan Toney’s future at Brentford has hit a roadblock, with reports suggesting that the club is forced to "slash their asking price" due to a lack of interest from potential suitors. The 28-year-old forward has been a key player for the Bees, scoring 72 goals in 142 appearances across all competitions.
According to The Sun, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all rejected the opportunity to sign Toney this summer, with the Gunners deeming him not a priority signing, Chelsea considering him "too old", and the Red Devils securing the services of Joshua Zirksee from Bologna.
Tottenham and West Ham United are the only two Premier League clubs still interested in signing Toney, but even their interest is lukewarm. As a result, Brentford is bracing itself for a potential fire-sale, with the club willing to offload Toney for a significantly reduced fee of less than £50 million.
Toney’s situation is complicated by the arrival of Brazilian striker Igor Thiago, who joined the club in a £30 million deal from Club Brugge in February. The 23-year-old is expected to replace Toney, who has just one year left on his existing contract.
Should Toney fail to secure a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium, he would be available on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Despite his impressive goal-scoring record, Toney’s future at Brentford hangs in the balance as the club faces an uncertain summer transfer window.
