Eton College Alum on the Cusp of Premier League Debut

Tudor Mendel-Idowu, a 19-year-old midfielder, is poised to make a huge leap in his career, joining newly-promoted Ipswich Town after a reported deal with Belgian side Anderlecht. The former Chelsea academy product underwent a medical before the deadline, according to Fabrizio Romano, and Ipswich sees him as an "exciting" young player.

Born in Berkshire, Mendel-Idowu was a child prodigy, featuring on Channel 4’s "Child Genius" at just eight years old. He attended Ludgrove School before being made a King’s Scholar at Eton College, an elite institution that admits the top 14 brightest students in the UK.

As a King’s Scholar, Mendel-Idowu underwent a rigorous examination process, covering papers in various subjects, including Maths, Latin, and Divinity. He was one of the top academically gifted students in the country, and Chelsea beat top Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Spurs to his signature.

Mendel-Idowu’s impressive academic credentials are matched by his footballing ability. He’s a former England U17 international and has played for Chelsea’s youth teams. After turning down an offer from Barcelona to join Anderlecht, he’s now back on English soil, set to join Ipswich’s development squad.

In a 2022 interview with FIFA, Mendel-Idowu shared his ambitions for the future. "In five years, I want to be competing at the highest level. I want to be playing in and winning Champions Leagues. Playing at a World Cup. Maybe even a World Player of the Year Award – we’ll see."

The midfielder is also an academic high achiever, studying Latin, Greek, and Modern History at A level. He’s considering Classics courses, which would open up pathways in Philosophy, Law, Literature, and Archaeology.

Mendel-Idowu’s incredible journey from child prodigy to Premier League prospect is a testament to his dedication and hard work. With his impressive academic credentials and footballing ability, he’s sure to make a splash in the Ipswich Town squad.
