Newcastle United set for ‘major summer clearout’ with four stars ‘set to be sold’ before transfer deadline

Newcastle’s Summer Clearance: Five First-Team Players Headed Out?

It’s been a hectic transfer window for Newcastle United, with four new faces joining the club, including midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who’s set to captain the Magpies. However, there are reports emerging that Eddie Howe could be planning a major summer clearout to trim the squad and bring in new faces.

According to sources, Miguel Almiron, Jamal Lewis, Martin Dubravka, and Kieran Trippier could be sold off before the transfer deadline on September 1. While Almiron has shown flashes of brilliance in his time at St James’ Park, the same can’t be said for Lewis and Dubravka, who haven’t been consistent starters under Howe.

As for Trippier, he’s an interesting one. The English right-back is approaching the end of his career, but his experience and leadership qualities are still valuable assets to the team. Despite being a fan favorite, a move to pastures new might be on the cards for the 34-year-old.

Another potential exit is Matt Targett, the left-back who struggled with an Achilles tendon injury last season and has seen his first-team chances limited. Transfer journalist Graeme Bailey reports that Nottingham Forest are keen to bring the 28-year-old on loan this summer.

The key question on everyone’s mind, however, is how will this summer clearance affect the Magpies’ chances on the pitch? On paper, selling off players with minimal game-time could make way for more talented players, but Howe will need to be shrewd in his recruitment if Newcastle are to build on last season’s 11th-place finish.
