Newcastle United’s goalkeeping dilemma has been a hot topic for weeks, and despite already strengthening their squad with the signings of Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy, it seems they’re far from done. According to a report from TBR Football, Eddie Howe is eyeing a third goalkeeper acquisition.
The Magpies have been long-time admirers of Burnley’s James Trafford, who has been lighting up the Championship with his impressive goalkeeping skills. At just 21 years old, Trafford has already made quite the name for himself, keeping an impressive two clean sheets in 28 Premier League games last season.
So, why is Newcastle so keen on snagging Trafford? Well, for one, his age and potential offer a tantalizing prospect for the Toon Army. Additionally, his solid performances in the Championship and Premier League to date suggest he’s capable of making the step up to the highest level.
But, and this is a big but, Burnley are far from willing to let Trafford leave Turf Moor for a knockdown price. Expected to command a fee in the region of £30 million, the Clarets are determined to ensure they get a suitable return on investment.
In an ideal world, it would be fantastic to see Newcastle take the plunge and meet Burnley’s valuation. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Magpies are forced to look elsewhere due to the significant financial outlay involved.
