An intermediary update has taken place on the Argentine Primera División this Monday, and 210 players saw changes to their market value. The 16-year-old Franco Mastantuono received the first market value of his career of €4 million, and was the big winner of the update. Not even two months has passed since River Plate sold Claudio Echeverri to Manchester City for €18.5m, before loaning him back to the Buenos Aires club. Echeverri sees his market value rise by €3m to take his latest value to €15m.

River have already found their new ‘jewel’ to replace him in 16-year-old Mastantuono. He is already a regular in Martín Demichelis’ team, and, despite still being a replacement player, he has demonstrated unusual talent and personality for his age. With his new value, he is among the 10 most valuable footballers in the world born in 2007 and among the top 40 of the 2024 Argentine League.

Echeverri gained the second most value in the league and it is mainly due to the amount that Man City paid for him. He remains the most valuable player in the first division of Argentine football after the departure of his former teammate Nicolás De La Cruz, and is the only player with a market value greater than €10m. After this update, we have a three-way tie for second place among the most valuable players in the league, with three players valued at €9m. River Plate’s Esequiel Barco (unchanged) is now accompanied by two players from Boca Juniors, Cristian Medina (+€0.5m to €9m) and Ezequiel Fernández (+€1m to €9m).

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
